Personally, I make this announcement with jubilance but also so much emotion for how much it means to come back to the community and corridor that I knew so well going up in City Heights.

Congratulations to the second cohort of San Diego Food Justice Project students! Last week, our Economic Development team joined business owners and partners to commemorate students’ completion of the course.

The dedication event was a beautiful reminder of all that goes into enhancing the quality of life in our community. Some projects take years of red tape, advocacy, and community planning to come to fruition, and this mural was no exception.

With our 2023 Street Food Fest just a couple months away, we’re excited to see this third annual event grow into a bigger and better fundraiser than ever!

We visited Gaius and Enoch, the partners behind Abule Afro Market and Eatery, at their University Ave. restaurant. Abule sits in one of City Heights emerging business hubs, near the 805 freeway and our symbolic ‘We Love City Heights’ mural.

The new Rapid 625 MTS bus route will travel from Southwest Chula Vista to San Diego State University while servicing several environmental justice communities, including City Heights!

Please join our Cambodian neighbors in ringing in the New Year, and be sure to invite anyone else who loves good food and community fun!

After decades working to de stigmatize and decriminalize street food vending, our team is appalled by these attacks and we stand alongside those neighbors working to earn a living on sidewalks, from food carts or trucks, and from their home-based catering work. 50+ City Heights residents showed up to mark maps, share feedback, and offer insights and experiences to help our team and policy makers better prevent displacement.
