In this new film, see our route from City Heights to Southeast San Diego to Chicano Park and all the way to the bay at Cesar Chavez Park Pier. The energy of the group was palpable as over 60 community members of many ages and backgrounds came together to ride—even the near 90 degree heat couldn’t bring us down.

With our 2023 Street Food Fest just a couple months away, we’re excited to see this third annual event grow into a bigger and better fundraiser than ever!

We visited Gaius and Enoch, the partners behind Abule Afro Market and Eatery, at their University Ave. restaurant. Abule sits in one of City Heights emerging business hubs, near the 805 freeway and our symbolic ‘We Love City Heights’ mural.

Thanks to our colleague, Tom Bui, and the San Diego Tourism Authority for combing through the neighborhood to highlight some of the community’s best murals, restaurants, parks, and small businesses.

For many San Diegans, time on the beach is essential to daily life, promoting mental and physical health—not to mention all the memories! Yet for many low income communities, beach access is out of reach, and it’s that inequity that led to the Silver Strand 4 All Campaign.

This award-winning 12 minute documentary features in-depth interviews with community leaders of City Heights from 1978-2018 who refused to allow their neighborhood to be divided by a new freeway. In response, they organized and developed an alternative plan—The Visions Project.

Thanks to all who made this second annual Street Food Fest and 40th birthday such a success. This work began four decades ago in City Heights, when a handful of neighbors committed to working together to make life better for all.

Miriam served her country, she worked two jobs, she's a full time student, she never missed a rent payment, but the weight of this pandemic is threatening to break everything she's worked so hard to build for herself and her kids.

Please don't let the flurry of funding requests distort this: today is actually about YOU and the impact you are having as you enable good work in the world.

Some days around the office are quiet, but some feel incredibly emotional. This was one of those days.
