Thanks to all who joined us for the return of Transit & Tacos!

Over 90 people spoke up for a more ‘joyful and just’ transit experience in their community, writing down ideas for transit improvements and sharing experiences around tables.

The SD Food Justice Project is the latest chapter in to our long-term food security efforts in City Heights and beyond, and our Economic Development team is working hard to find the first 100 small business applicants with priority focus on marginalized business owners and supporting the entrepreneurship of individuals with limited English proficiency, regardless of immigration or citizenship status.

After nearly three years, August 4th will see the return of an in-person Transit & Tacos! This award-winning engagement series will allow for City Heights residents to shape our transit system all while enjoying free tacos!

For many San Diegans, time on the beach is essential to daily life, promoting mental and physical health—not to mention all the memories! Yet for many low income communities, beach access is out of reach, and it’s that inequity that led to the Silver Strand 4 All Campaign.

This award-winning 12 minute documentary features in-depth interviews with community leaders of City Heights from 1978-2018 who refused to allow their neighborhood to be divided by a new freeway. In response, they organized and developed an alternative plan—The Visions Project.

Thanks to all who made this second annual Street Food Fest and 40th birthday such a success. This work began four decades ago in City Heights, when a handful of neighbors committed to working together to make life better for all.

My name is Destenie, but I prefer Des.

I was born in Orange, California, and raised in Tijuana/San Diego. I was a 4th grader when my family moved to Tijuana following my stepdad’s deportation, a move that impacted the core of who I am today.

June 11th marked the return of the Mid-City Community Bike ride. Over 60 community members from all ages joined as we had so much riding around the Mid-City area!

Local food businesses set up their food trucks and booths offering cuisines like Thai, Mexican, Jamaican, Vietnamese, Somali, Japanese, and from many other cultures!

Street Food Fest was born in early 2019, when several of us gathered around a conference table to dream of a more community-focused way to fundraise and celebrate together.

Situated at the corner of University Ave and the 15 freeway, the Tierra Central event space is a one minute walk from the City Heights Transit Plaza. When coming from downtown San Diego, take the North-bound Rapid 235 Bus route. The transit plaza can also be reached via bus routes seven and ten.

Michael’s love for community is infectious, his passion for a deeper understanding of those things that help hold us together is inspiring, but it’s his open-hearted kindness that most inspires.

Join us at Teralta Park on Saturday, June 11 at 1pm. Ride out at 2pm.

We'll be riding around the neighborhoods highlighting new community-advocated bikeways recently installed by SANDAG - San Diego Association of Governments and City of San Diego.

…earlier this week, a young Metro Villas resident came into the office to share that his grades had improved. He said, “I am better at mathematics now, and it’s thanks to the after school progam here. Thank you.”
