Tierra Central’s First Mid-Autumn Lunar Festival Celebration Unites Businesses and People

Last Saturday, the Economic Development team hosted its first Mid-Autumn Lunar Festival celebration at Tierra Central. Regions like Vietnam, China and Japan celebrate the traditional honoring the moon for its luminescent light throughout harvest seasons.

The celebration welcomed local businesses and the community. The Pad Thai Stand, Somros Bopha Kitchen and Juicie Cane were amongst the food vendors filling the lot with sweet and savory aromas. Non-food businesses included beauty products by Meliora Essence, traditional hand-painted lanterns by local vendors and hand-crocheted baby products by Paola Hayes Crochet. Miss Vietnam of San Diego and Vecinos de City Heights were also invited, each hosting an information booth for attendees to visit and inquire.

The Legendary Lion Dance of San Diego offered guests an upfront performance of a traditional lion dance. Six lions adorned in vibrant colors danced with the audience, accepting offerings from children and adults, a customary practice expressing generosity and good fortune. Closing the night were special musical performances by Nguyen Tu, Vivian Thuy Van and Thao Tram sung in Vietnamese.

Since its inauguration early this year, Tierra Central continues providing dozens of small businesses and locals a space in City Heights for an immersive, and perhaps non-traditional, food, entertainment and shopping experience. More significant is that it stands as another symbol of solidarity in City Heights, emblematic of local organizations' commitment to City Heights businesses and people. It is thanks to the collective efforts between businesses, patrons and organizations that Tierra Central can continue existing as a hub for local commerce and culture.
