Fern Street Circus—Social Change Through Circus! (Story 25/40)

Have you spotted the colorful tents near the corner of 41st and University?

Fern Street Circus is about performance and fun, but it’s also circus for social change, working alongside young people in the community to instill confidence, promote cultural understanding, and help youth realize their potential.

The big-hearted people of Fern Street Circus have been stakeholders and longterm residents of the Tierra Central event space, and we’re honored to partner with them as they serve City Heights youth!

John Highkin, Fern Street’s Executive Director, shared a bit about the group’s weekly activities: “We teach five or six days per week at our site on the lot, including several mornings per week.” Fern Street has also taught classes at the local Central Elementary school just across the fence and is Cirque du Soleil’s Social Action Partner in San Diego, a signal honor which speaks to their years of service to families in neighborhoods of need!

Fern Street Circus Executive Director, John Highkin, speaks from the stage during an event at Tierra Central.

Thank you, Fern Street, for your efforts in the community, and thanks for making events where you perform so much more fun!!
