Let’s celebrate a housing justice win!

We teamed up with the Legal Aid Society of San Diego on Monday, April 4th to present in favor of the City of San Diego No Fault Eviction Moratorium.

Over the week, many of our neighbors celebrated Cambodian New Year!

The festivities at Tierra Central were amazing, with food from around the world, live music, dancing, art exhibitions, and even a parade.

He climbed out of the engine and made direct eye contact: "People may take off. They're confusing. Life is hard sometimes, easy others. But cars just always made sense. Fixing things makes sense, ya know?"

When asked about his favorite moments here in the community, he said “When we first arrive. The people are so happy to see us, and we all know each other. If people need to talk or laugh or cry or something, we can do that. We make time.”

“Food is about belonging and identity, and places like this offer that security and sense of place. It’s why we love City Heights. It feels like home.”

Have you noticed how often people celebrate resilience?

It’s really easy to do, and it makes sense—people love a good underdog story. It’s inspiring to see someone overcome obstacles, but resilience narratives alone just aren’t enough.

Our second annual City Heights Business Expo was great time! Local business owners and entrepreneurs spent time sharing and asking questions, and it’s a reminder that business doesn’t have to be cutthroat for everyone to rise together.

Our team recently spent time eating and hanging out together in-person for the first time in years! We’re grateful for tools like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, but nothing can replace being in the same space together.

Around City Heights, we talk a lot about slowing gentrification, but taking a few minutes to just lament and grieve the pain it causes is also important.
