City Heights' Winter Extravaganza at Teralta Park

Welcome, winter, to City Heights.

Each year, something magical happens in our neighborhood: snow falls in City Heights. In partnership with the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department, City Heights CDC transforms Teralta Park into a winter wonderland, welcoming families and residents to a free, joyful community celebration.

This year, our CHCDC team was joined by partners, volunteers, local vendors, and community organizations to celebrate the holiday season together. Teralta Park came alive with a live DJ, delicious food sold by local vendors, festive activities, and a special performance by Fern Street Circus. At the core of the event is a 9-foot snow mountain, where kids (and, let’s be honest, plenty of adults) spend the afternoon sliding, laughing, and experiencing the rare joy of snow in sunny City Heights, creating lasting memories long after the snow melts.

Our CEO, Alexis Villanueva, shared her gratitude for the community and partners who make this event possible: “We’re so excited to continue this yearly tradition—now going on four years. This event is our thank you to the City Heights community and to everyone who shows up with care and intention. Together, we’re working to make sure our neighborhood is safe, kind, and an even better place to live.”

We extend a special thank you to our generous sponsors, partners, and volunteers. From toy drives and event coordination to on-the-ground support from Parks and Recreation, vendors, and community organizations, this event would not be possible without your commitment and collaboration. A special thank you to the San Diego Bike Collective for its generous donation of 20 bikes, which were raffled to City Heights residents and families.

Thank you for helping us bring the joy, the snow, and the holiday spirit to City Heights. We look forward to welcoming you back next year for another unforgettable Winter Extravaganza.
