Introducing "People. Power. Mobility."—A Story of 10+ Years of Community Advocacy

After a year of interviews, filming, and editing, we are excited to unveil City Heights Community Development Corporation’s short documentary film "People. Power. Mobility." Driven by a series of conversations with the City Heights community, the film portrays a complicated and moving narrative of the grassroots organizing, participatory planning and community advocacy that goes into creating a more equitable, transit-accessible City Heights. From parks on top of freeways, protected bikeways, fare-free transit and new transit lines, "People. Power. Mobility." paints picture of how community leaders, residents, and advocates work together to re-imagine City Heights through a transformative transportation justice lens.

The film features stories from members the City Heights Built Environment Team, a multi-generational collective of residents who have mobilizing around urban planning issues for 10 years. We also hear insights from the City Heights CDC Transportation & Planning Team on what cultivating a human-centered approach looks like, and what it means to engage communities in a complex, time-consuming planning process.

As climate disasters, housing crises, and inadequate transportation systems continue to challenge cities nation-wide, the intricate story of community collaboration, perseverance, and triumph in "People. Power. Mobility." shows how expansive and exciting the realm of possibility is for people who want to build better cities everywhere.

We’d like to extend a warm thanks to everyone who made the film possible, including Evan Apodaca, Ian Patzke, Pueblo Planning, the City Heights Built Environment Team, Energy Foundation, The California Endowment, City Heights CDC’s Transportation & Planning team, and beyond.

Lastly, we’d like to thank the phenomenal community of leaders and residents in City Heights for their relentless efforts in creating a better community for all.
