The Creek to Bay: Community Bike Ride Was A Success!

Thanks to all who joined the ride!

This most recent edition of our community bike ride series was so fun, and we covered ground! The route took us from City Heights to Southeast San Diego to Chicano Park and all the way to the bay at Cesar Chavez Park Pier!

The energy of the group was palpable as over 60 community members of many ages and backgrounds came together to ride—even the near 90 degree heat couldn’t bring us dow.

Along the route we heard from a richly diverse line-up of community leaders as they outlined their own work in environmental justice. Special thanks to these community leaders for joining us:

-Dr. Stanley Rodriguez of Kumeyaay Community College
-City of National City Councilmember + Bayshore Bikeway Chair Marcus Bush, MRED
-Port of San Diego Commissioner Sandy Naranjo
-Barry Pollard of Urban Collaborative Project
-Chicano Park Muralist Victor Ochoa
-Community Organizer Jorge Gonzalez, M.A.

Special thanks to Edgar Ontiveros, who took the photos in this post and helped document the event.

Thanks also to the California State Coastal Conservancy for funding our equitable coastal access work. Thank you Outdoor Outreach and San Diego County Bicycle Coalition for your on-going partnership. It was a pleasure leading the planning of this event for our community!
