Thanks to All Who Spoke On Behalf of the Sidewalk Vending Policy!

Thank you to the vendors, community members, leaders, and all stakeholders who came out to speak on behalf of the sidewalk vending policy!

We understand this is a complex issue that requires discussion, and—more importantly—collaboration to understand the complexities of this issue and to come together to create actionable steps that will benefit our communities as whole.

We know that is a start to breaking down foundational and systemic policies that were designed to economically redline and further oppress communities.

We are hopeful that our continued work with partners like the Logan Heights CDC, CHEDC Policy Committee, Street Vendor Equity Coalition, Business for Good, District 2 council office, Jennifer Campbell, District 2 council office, Monica Montgomery-Steppe, District 4 council office, Raul Campillo, District 7 council office, and our home office of district 9, Council President Elo-Rivera will result in a policy that will uplift the voices of our vendors.

We want the community to know that we are committed to knocking down barriers and we know we did so with this collaboration.

For the first time in the City of San Diego, sidewalk vendors will have an opportunity to own a business. We always knew these vendors were an essential part of our communities, but now they will have path to make that official!

Secondly, in collaboration with stakeholders, we will be able to create community incubators and placemaking spaces for vendors to flourish.

Thirdly, the enforcement will include working with community partners to make your business the best it can be and have purposeful engagement versus engaging with law enforcement and wondering if they’ll face punishment.

There’s more work to do, and we intend to continue this work so that we can create pathways for all businesses, small and large.
