City Heights Champion Scholar, Teng Panha: How One Scholarship Made a Difference

For Teng Panha, the opportunity to pursue higher education without the added pressure of working is both a joy and a privilege. With the help of federal funding and scholarship awards, like the Champion Scholar Award she received last year, she was able to cover tuition and the many out-of-pocket costs that come with attending university.

“When it came time to decide which college to attend, finances played a major role in my decision. As a first-generation and low-income student, I didn’t want higher education to burden my family financially,” she shares.

Her advice to rising seniors and applicants for the Champion Scholar Scholarship:

“The more scholarships you apply to, the better your chances of being awarded one. During my senior year, I devoted plenty of time to scholarship applications, and that effort paid off.”

One scholarship can make all the difference. If you’re a rising senior with your sights set on college or a vocational program—and a heart for your community—we encourage you to apply for our next cohort of Champion Scholars.
