Champion Scholar Spotlight: Mohamed’s Journey Toward Law School

The City Heights CDC Champion Scholars scholarship is a commitment to the future of young people in City Heights.

For longtime City Heights resident Mohamed, becoming a Champion Scholar opened new doors in his educational journey and helped shape a path toward his dream of becoming an attorney.

“This support helped me stay on track and achieve honor roll throughout my college years, something I am very proud of.”

While the scholarship provided financial relief, Mohamed says the impact went beyond the dollar amount. The program also offered mentorship and professional development that helped him prepare for real-world opportunities.

“Their help with things like my resume played a role in securing my current internship with the Public Defender’s Office, which has been an important step toward my future goal of becoming an attorney.”

He’s now on a path that he once dreamed of, and he’s paying that forward by encouraging other students in City Heights to believe in themselves and to seek support around them.

“Remember that there are people out there who truly want to help you and see you succeed. City Heights CDC helped me at a time when I felt like no one else could, and that made a big difference. Stay open to opportunities, even the ones you might not expect. Don’t be quick to turn anything down. You never know what could end up helping you on your journey.”
