As businesses continue to struggle under COVID-19, many partners and neighbors from the community are working to create the City Heights Business Relief Fund (CHBRF), a coalition of like-minded organizations and advocates intent on helping businesses weather the pandemic.

The partnership’s goal is to provide emergency relief funding to the many dozens of City Heights businesses that are experiencing financial hardship due to the impact of Covid-19.

Price Philanthropies, located in City Heights, has committed up to $100,000 to the City Heights Business Relief Fund and issued a challenge to other nonprofit funding agencies to match its initial $40,000 grant to reach the ultimate goal of $200,000. We have raised $70k so far!

Several partners have already committed to help raise the money, including PANA (Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans), LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation), and Somali Family Services of San Diego.

"During these unprecedented times, San Diego residents are all experiencing varying degrees of hardship and difficulty in adjusting to the impact of COVID-19. Many vulnerable communities are disproportionately impacted by the virus, particularly the refugee and immigrant communities in San Diego’s population” said Ahmed Sahid, President & CEO of Somali Family Services. “By working together and supporting one another, we will be able to get help to those who need it most in our community, and work towards a positive collective impact!"

“The City Heights community, like all low-income communities, has been disproportionately impacted by the current health and economic crisis. Recovery is going to be hard” said Erik Tilkemeier, Director, and Economic & Urban Development at the City Heights Community Development Corporation. “All of our businesses are essential to our local economy, and to their owners’ and employees’ livelihoods. We intend to support as many as we can.”

We are asking you, our community allies, to help raise the final $30,000. The good news is, no one person or organization has to raise that alone! A donation of $5 or $10 makes a difference—it all adds up!

If we reach this goal, Price Philanthropies will match it, for a total total of $100k, totaling $200,000 for the City Heights Business Relief Fund. The help we can provide would be invaluable to many, many businesses. Please consider donating below!
