Announcing Our “Development Without Displacement” Report

With local neighborhoods struggling to contain the growing threat of displacement and gentrification, we are proud to announce the results of our “Development without Displacement” report – a comprehensive project designed to help inform housing policy in City Heights moving forward.

The forced relocation of longtime and existing residents and businesses due to loss of employment, property condemnation, affordability or redevelopment destroys our unique and vibrant community culture – sad facts which where the impetus for this new City Heights CDC project.

With an eye on breaking down barriers and halting forced displacement by making strategic property and infrastructure investments and fostering community pride, the 35-page page report is a concerted effort – the result of three years of intensive community meetings, workshops, asset mapping, and policy trainings within the City Heights community.

The report outlines a series of recommendations designed to advance community needs by adapting a collaborative approach involving government agencies, community organizations, developers and community members. The policies strive to reshape investment dynamics, empower the community economically and promote the construction of affordable housing units with priority leasing agreements.
