City Heights Community Development Corporation (CHCDC) is supporting residents of City Heights by building on its established job preparation and referral program called the CHANGE (City Heights Action for Neighbors to Get Employed) Program. Program participants are self-referred residents from City Heights and adjacent Mid-City communities.
CHCDC programs help community residents who are under or un-employed. Placement services are provided at no cost to employers or job seekers. Our model of job preparation and referral is one that has achieved successful results over the ten year period the CHANGE program has been in place. Participants are recruited on an ongoing basis. CHCDC staff assess participant's math, reading and listening skills with translation-assistance as required. The program stresses, one-on-one assistance with individual employment needs. Project enrollees sign a commitment to participate, and staff and volunteers provide wrap-around services to ensure successful program completion. The model was specifically designed to help community job seekers with soft skills and cultural competency/employment readiness skills and provide supportive San Diego employers with enhanced access to a skilled and diverse workforce.
