International Village Celebration

The City Heights Community Development Corporation (CHCDC) presents the 15th Annual City Heights International Village Celebration Saturday, June 2, 2007 in the City Heights community of San Diego. The celebration will be held at City Heights Urban Village Park off of Fairmount Ave. and Landis St. This free one-day, free and family friendly festival celebrates one of San Diego's oldest Mid City communities, home to over 90,000 people speaking more than 30 languages and dialects.
Three outdoor stages will offer visitors the opportunity to "travel around the world in a single day" with a single stop in City Heights. Local hometown favorites: Mario Olivares and Reggie Smith, will join more than 30 bands, steppers and performers offering the finest in Jazz, R&B, Urban/Hip-Hop and Gospel. Performances throughout the day will include Ballet Folklorico, strolling Mariachis and dance performances representing Africa, Somalia, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Brazil, Ghana, the Caribbean and Native America.
This year's "Fun Zone" geared for children of all ages will feature animal and carnival rides, clowns, face painting, arts and crafts, slides, jumps, rock climbing, and a TaeKwondo demonstration.
The event will also host a career corner job fair, where employers meet and screen thousands of potential employees and a Health Fair offering free screenings, insurance and information covering various health related subjects.
The International Village Celebration is produced by the CHCDC through a Celebration Committee of volunteers comprised of City Heights' residents, professionals, educators, community leaders and representatives from local businesses, community groups and neighborhood associations. The group is charged with the production of the International Village Celebration in conjunction with the City Heights Community Development Corporation (CHCDC), who also serves as the fiscal sponsor.
